When Winter Rolls Into Spring

This is one of my favourite times of the year - we start day-dreaming about trips to the beach, but can still enjoy the comfort of snuggling up at night with a book and tea. The days that transition from winter to spring are often wet and miserable, although they are sometimes sunny and full of warmth. They are black and white, yet so full of colour - greens, crimsons and the bright turquoise of crystal clear water.

I also love this time of year for the fashion, because it is undefined, indefinite. Shorts and tights are both acceptable (probably not together), as are pleated skirts, jeans, cardigans, singlet tops and sandals. I am currently wearing my new Princess Highway dress which I think is the perfect winter-spring dress. I love the way it falls and the bows and the tiny cap sleeves. I am also wearing a David Lawrence cardigan, which, with its white stripes and metallic buttons, feels almost summery in itself.

And so, my favourite time of the year has come, and will soon be gone. The clouds will roll over the hills and I will sit by my window looking for the last traces of the winter-spring transition as they disappear into a sea of bright blue sky that seems to ruin every photo I try to take. I will miss this time, that only really lasts for two of the year's fifty-two weeks. But, in my new habit of trying not to wish my life away, I can wait the next twelve months for it come again.
